ELASTIC BAND PRAC :)

Aim:
To determine and observe the effect of temperature on the elasticity of a rubber band.

Hypothesis:
Rubber bands stored in the freezer (0oC) would not be as elastic as the rubber bands stored in room temperature (22oC) and the other elastic bands stored in the oven (80oC).

Materials and equipment:
· Oven
· Freezer
· Rubber bands
· Ruler

Method:
1. Gather all materials.
2. Separate 3 groups with 25 rubber bands in each group.
3. Put 1 group of 25 rubber bands in a freezer at 0 oC.
4. Store it there for 4 hours.5. Take all of the rubber bands in that group out.
6. Stretch the rubber band (while someone holds the ruler) until it finally breaks. Do this with every rubber band.
7. Observe and record results.
8. Put another group of 25 rubber bands in room temperature set at 22 oC.
9. Repeat steps 4 through 7.
10. Put another group of 25 rubber bands in an oven at 80 oC.
11. Repeat steps 4 - 7.

Variables:
Independent: the temperature which the elastic bands will be stored at.
Dependent: how far the elastic band stretches.

Constants:
- Brand of rubber bands.
- Size of the rubber bands.
- Amount of time the rubber bands are stored in each temperature.
- Oven.
- Freezer.
- Colour of the rubber bands.

1 comment:

  1. sorry, but i couldnt find the "degrees" symbol so i just used a small font to represent it instead.
    i.e.
0 oC is zero degrees celcius
22 oC is 22 degrees celcius
80 oC is 80 degrees celcius
