ELASTIC BAND PRAC :)

Aim:
To determine and observe the effect of temperature on the elasticity of a rubber band.

Hypothesis:
Rubber bands stored in the freezer (0oC) would not be as elastic as the rubber bands stored in room temperature (22oC) and the other elastic bands stored in the oven (80oC).

Materials and equipment:
· Oven
· Freezer
· Rubber bands
· Ruler

Method:
1. Gather all materials.
2. Separate 3 groups with 25 rubber bands in each group.
3. Put 1 group of 25 rubber bands in a freezer at 0 oC.
4. Store it there for 4 hours.5. Take all of the rubber bands in that group out.
6. Stretch the rubber band (while someone holds the ruler) until it finally breaks. Do this with every rubber band.
7. Observe and record results.
8. Put another group of 25 rubber bands in room temperature set at 22 oC.
9. Repeat steps 4 through 7.
10. Put another group of 25 rubber bands in an oven at 80 oC.
11. Repeat steps 4 - 7.

Variables:
Independent: the temperature which the elastic bands will be stored at.
Dependent: how far the elastic band stretches.

Constants:
- Brand of rubber bands.
- Size of the rubber bands.
- Amount of time the rubber bands are stored in each temperature.
- Oven.
- Freezer.
- Colour of the rubber bands.

CLIMATE GRAPH

since that im not much of a computer whizz, i decided to do my climate graph old school...

BY HAND.

i know right? its like from the jurassic period or something LOL

so yeah, hopefully i did it correctly :)

DECISION FINALLY MADE

ok, ive decided to do the elastic band one, because not only is it simple and not as expensive and time consuming as the others, i am also interested to see how the results turn out :)

so it looks like i have to go to woolies or something to buy a bag of elastic bands D:

WOW, long time no blog :(

ok, i havent really had the chance to blog/ start my SRP because for half of the holidays i was in new caledonia with like 30 other girls, but now that im back and AT HOME, i think i better get a move on, but i need to ask ms zhang for my mark because i somehow didnt get it :S
or maybe i accidently deleted it because i thought it was an email from facebook LOL

well whatever the cas may be, i have to start my SRP soon, maybe like now :)

FOUND OUT WHAT I CAN DOOOOO

ok, so like i just found out that i can do any experiment i listed, so i think ill do that water one because its interesting and i really want to know if the water is the same in all parts of sydney :D
BETTER GET STARTED,
after new caledonia of course :)

handed in my blog :)

so like i just submitted my blog this afternoon and ohhhhhhh i wish i will get a positive response soon :)
they all seem interesting and can somehow benefit me and allow me to understand more about it.
wish me luck

experiment ideas

ok, im sorry that ive been HEAPS BUSY with the amount of homework that year 10 has welcomed us with, but hopefully this week will pass QUICKLY and i get to blog more often :)
even though ive been stressing and tired from all the sport and school work, i have been thinking A LOT about what i should do. i wanted to do something that interests me and will help me understand better, hopefully LOL :)

So ive googled and thought about some ideas and hopefully one of them will stand out and ill be allowed to carry it out as my SRP.

so far, i have a few very different ideas:
1. i want to do something that relates to water. maybe along the lines of how water all over sydney is of the same quality. i mean, the tap water has to be of a similar quality right?
i would somehow, hopefully by train or by car or something, go around various places of sydney and collect at least 2 or 3 samples of tap water from the same place. i will check out its characteristics such as its pH levels, the amount of alkalinity, chlorine etc.

i will also see if the location of the town affects its qualities, maybe the water near the coast is better? maybe it's all the same? In total i will have more than 30 samples of an equal amount of water. this experiment will take a lot of effort, but it seems fun and interesting and i will probably have a great time travelling and acting like a tourist, visting random towns and cities across sydney :)

2. i wonder if temperature affects the elasticity of a rubber band. they always break, but somehow, some of them last longer. maybe it has something to do with where they are stored and at what temperature. i will somehow buy a BIG bag of rubber bands and store at least 10 of them at the same temperature. in total i will have a range of about 10-15 different temperatures at the same time.

this experiment is easy and does not need any assistance from anyone, but what if the rubber bands in the freezer get somehoe mysteriously lost behing all the food we keep there? LOL
hopefully not :D

3. and my final idea is to grow a plant by using different watering materials. i wanted to see if plants respond to the different things they drink. i will probably have a few plants which will be fed different things. the plants will all be the same of course and be kept in the same area. i will feed them with ONE liquid each which includes:
clean water, slushee, coffee, chlorine water, salt water, crushed panadol in water maybe even my mum's asian herbal tea LOL
i dont know, but i really want to see its effects and how the plants respond to the very weird, creative ideas i came up with :)

even though ive researched ideas, some of them were inappropiate as they included animals and stuff. others were wither too basic or too complicated D:
there were many great experiments, but like i said, some of them were not able to be done.

one of the things i saw was which technique was the most effective for smokers trying to quit.
this is interesting, but i doubt i will be able to spend a lot of money on it, let alone somehow magically getting at least 30 smokers around me, now thats gross!

and even though i have thought about it for a longer time, i only have 4 ideas :(
but hopefully one of them will be chosen soon and i can carry out the experiment ASAP

so those are my thoughts and ideas and fingers crossed :D

and now i have to go to bed :(

i shall blooooooog soon
xx

HELLO WORLD :)
